Construction Update

 3/03/10
It has been a very busy week as the scheduled work near the Boat Basin Overpass is near completion. The placement of asphalt began Monday in that area and will continue through tomorrow in the vicinity of Taylor Street. Sometimes, I have found it easier to lay out the work ahead in bullet form, as it is easier to read, especially if there are critical items to identify. So, below you will find the schedule for the major items that are scheduled through next week.

This week;
  • Today and Thursday, continue asphalt from Taylor Street up to the roundabout entrance
  • Friday morning, temporary striping of the new travel lane
  • Friday afternoon, eastbound traffic switch will occur, routing vehicles up through the north side of the roundabout
  • Excavations will continue on Brewery Grade
  • Concrete foundation work for roundabout centerpiece

Next week;
  • Beginning Monday, major work will begin to remove the existing asphalt and concrete along the south side of the project. Material will be transported from site and new base material will be brought in. For the protection of motorists and the construction crews, flagging will occur from the east end of the roundabout to the Boat Basin Overpass, for trucks entering and leaving the site.
  • Installation of the Joint Utility Trench from the base of Brewery Grade, east, to the Boat Basin Overpass. This will be done in the current eastbound traffic lane that will not be in use.
  • Concrete foundation work for roundabout center
  • Final installation of stairway handrail

The level of activity in the area will continue to be very high until project completion in May.
